In this webinar\, we will identify whether OERs were a solution or being used in the last year in education; and how OERs may be used in the future. SUMMARY:No. 1 - Learning Design in the Eye of the Storm
DESCRIPTION:WATCH THE RECORDING VIEW THE PRESENTATIONS \nDescription\n\nIndeed\, today most teachers and educators work in an online learning environment\, yet for many of them their immersion in online teaching was a necessary response to the global pandemic. Overnight we changed physical\, traditional\, learning environment to an online environment. This brought many challenges for teachers. A high number of them needed different and new skills and experiences in teaching as well as the support and collaboration with people of different backgrounds and expertise. Support units\, learning technologists and instructional and learners designers now become more than ever in focus by extensively helping teachers to navigate this new environment and select appropriate tools for planned activities\, to implement new pedagogies\, and to design efficient\, effective and enjoyable learning experience for their students.  Learning designers across the globe led teachers out of the storm.  The pandemic forced steps forward and an online pivot that were planned and foreseen for many years and prompted teachers everywhere into action by opening new opportunities for teaching and learning and highlighting the critical importance of learning design. In addition\, it has moved the focus from content creation to the users learning experience supported by appropriate learning environments. SUMMARY:What do I do as an educator with learning analytics?
DESCRIPTION:WATCH THE RECORDING \nDescription\nIn this interactive webinar for EDEN\, we will share lived experiences of how four organisations in six countries are using learning analytics on a daily basis. Some of these organisations have implemented learning analytics at an institutional scale\, while others have created more specific and bespoke applications and practices. At least two of these organisations provide rich learning analytics data directly to students\, while all four also provide rich and aggregate data to educators. For example\, at Nottingham Trent University students can easily access their own data about how engaged they are with their studies. At Maastricht University in one course students are given their own data about their learning dispositions and engagement data\, which they use for learning statistics and afterwards use to reflect on their practice. In other institutions like the Open University over 3000 teachers are given weekly data about their students via interactive dashboards\, and whether (or not) the predictive learning analytics system predicts whether a student will pass the next assignment. At Mountain Heights Academy\, an online high school in the US\, teachers are using an Action Dashboard (or data-driven to-do list) to spend more time reaching out to their students rather than clicking through disparate systems to find the data they need to intervene with struggling students. In this webinar we specifically will focus on the role of the educator\, and how you could use learning analytics in your own classroom. That teaching applies blended learning following the flipped-class philosophy\, where LA serves the function of supporting students to self-regulate the learning in the e-tutorials. Our LA takes into account both log data from e-tutorials as well as survey data of learning dispositions\, enabling richer learning feedback. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nDr Robert BodilyZappee\, LLCDr. Robert Bodily received his PhD in educational technology from Brigham Young University. His research focuses on improving teaching and learning using learning analytics data and methods. He specifically focuses on teacher-facing and student-facing learning analytics dashboards\, and is currently working on an Action Dashboard to help teachers reach out more effectively to struggling students. In 2017\, Mark was recognised by the Commonwealth of Learning as a world leader in the area of Open\, Online and Digital Education.Presenters:Mairead Nic Giolla Mhichil Dr. Mairéad Nic Giolla Mhichíl is an Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow\, with the National Institute of Digital Learning in Dublin City University\, researching digital innovation and implementation in higher education. Mairéad is the institutional lead on micro-credentials and has conducted the first national micro-credential survey of employers and employees in Ireland. She serves on a national steering committee to develop and implement a national approach to the development and delivery of micro-credentials with other sectoral stakeholders. She is a Fulbright Scholar with the University of Notre Dame in the USA and lectures in Information Technology in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in DCU. DESCRIPTION:With the EDEN Open Education Week\, Virtual events 2021 having come to an end\, EDEN wishes to thank all the participants\, moderators\, panelists\, organisers and partner institutions for supporting us in hosting an incredibly insightful and significant online event series\, for the sixth year already. The online webinar series organised by EDEN arching through five days (March 1–5) was a great opportunity to reflect on changes and achievements influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and to enhance the possibilities of online and distance learning in the hopefully not so distant “new normal”. Participants had access to daily online webinars and panel sessions of expert scholars and practitioners who presented a variety of cutting edge open and online learning topics\, from innovations in design to open educational research. SUMMARY:Role of the openness in shaping of the post-pandemic education (Role of international associations)
DESCRIPTION:WATCH THE RECORDING \nPanel discussion\nDescription:We are facing the biggest disruption of education in history caused by the global health pandemic and it is more important than ever to ensure access to education. As schools closed\, over a billion of students have been hampered from learning in the way they used to\, and inequalities in access to education have become even more evident. If we take the position that education is common good and should be reachable and available to all\, it is our obligation to join efforts and work in this direction. Open Educational Resources (OER) can help in achieving inclusive education aiming to ensure that learners with diverse needs and preferences (such as those with disabilities) have equal opportunities in accessing learning resources\, services\, and learning experience in general. The Open Education movement is evolving\, and besides creating and publishing OERs\, focus is shifting to Open Education Practices that can be implemented using OER. It is evident that the Covid-19 crisis has resulted in a paradigm shift in how learners of all ages\, worldwide\, can access learning. SUMMARY:Supporting teaching and learning in schools through OER: Lessons from the pandemic

SUMMARY:Insights from an internationally co-developed MOOC on digital citizenship
DESCRIPTION:WATCH THE RECORDING \nWebinar\nDescription:Within the Erasmus+ NEXUS project\, a MOOC on active digital citizenship has recently been developed\, with the rationale that\, due to recent influx of migrants into Europe\, a majority of European universities have a student population who are excluded from broader civic or political participation. In a way that is different from the typical MOOCs\, that are designed and developed by a single professor\, as a “translation” of face-to-face teaching practices in to a massive online experience\, the NEXUS MOOC was conceived\, designed\, developed and reviewed in a fully collaborative fashion among six organizations from different countries. The webinar will reflect on this experience\, that was both extremely enriching for the participating groups and contributed to the coexistence of different perspectives within the MOOC\, while being less effective from a production point of view. Her work is focused on monitoring and fostering the e-learning implementation in higher education institutions in Croatia and providing support and advice to institutions\, teachers and students in implementation of new technologies in the learning and teaching process.  She was appointed Croatian representative in ET2020 Working group on Digital Skills and Technologies (2016-2018) and in ET2020 Working group on Digital Education: learning\, teaching and Assessment (2018-2020). She obtained a master’s degree in Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh\, UK in 2014. From 2016 to 2019 she was EDEN vice-president for Open Professional Collaboration. \n\nLisa-Marie Blaschke\nChair of the Board of the EDEN Fellows Council\nProgramme Director\, Center of Lifelong Learning (C3L)\, Oldenburg\, Germany\nDr. Lisa Marie Blaschke is programmed director of the Management of Technology Enhanced Learning master’s programme at the Center for Lifelong Learning at University of Oldenburg\, Germany\, and a senior researcher at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg in Heilbronn. She is also a former executive committee member of the European Distance Education and E-Learning Network (EDEN) and is a Senior EDEN Fellow and Chair of the Board of the EDEN Fellows Council. She is a former adjunct associate professor at the University of Maryland University College\, where she received the Stanley J. Drazek Award for Teaching Excellence in 2016. Lisa has a BS in Technical Communication\, and two master’s degrees (MDE\, MBA)\, and a PhD. Prior to academia\, Lisa worked for SAP for over a decade in Walldorf\, Germany\, leading and implementing enterprise-wide knowledge management and training processes and solutions. He has also been a member of diverse scientific committees and has collaborated as an evaluator of national and international research project proposals. As well as his academic career\, he has worked in different international companies including Rolls Royce (the work he undertook there was subsequently patented)\, Hewlett Packard\, and the telecommunications company I.T.T. In 2015\, he was awarded the title of EDEN Fellow from the Executive Committee of the European Distance and E-Learning Network in recognition of the work he has undertaken in this area. \n\nDiana Andone\nEDEN Vice President\nDirector of the eLearning Center\, Politehnica University of Timisoara\, Romania \nDiana Andone is the Director of the eLearning Center at the Politehnica University of Timisoara in Romania. Dr. Andone runs the team who developed the university’s award winning Virtual Campus CVUPT and is also a professor at the Politehnica University of Timisoara\, Romania\, in the area of multimedia and web technologies. She is passionate about the ubiquitous access to technologies and how they can be used to improve people’s lives. Dr. Andone research includes web and mobile technologies\, human-computer interaction\, AR/VR/XR in education and culture\, open education\, online and mobile learning\, OERs and MOOCs. Her publication list comprises 12 books and over 100 papers presented at international conferences\, reviewer of several journals and conferences\, and also chairs IEEE and ACM conferences. Her experience includes over 30 European funded projects\, out of which she coordinated 4\, notably ViCADiS (Virtual Campus for Digital Students)\, DigiCulture (Digital Skills for Creative Industries). She is also involved extensively in several professional organisations and associations (IEEE – Education Society Board\, EDEN – Vice-president\, IADIS\, AACE\, W3C\, IAFES)\, actively supports the local start-up movement (StartUp Weekend\, HackTM\, hackathons\, CoderDojo) and Girls in Tech\, as well as acting in the Board of local Romanian NGOs (Pentru Voi Foundation) in the Timisoara 2023 European Capital of Culture Task Force and a member of Rotary Club Timisoara and Rotary International. \n\nAntonio Teixeira\nFormer EDEN President\nUniversidade Aberta\, Portugal \nAntónio Teixeira is an Associate Professor of open\, distance and network education at Universidade Aberta (UAb). He’s also a researcher at the University of Lisbon and collaborates with the University of Rome 3. He was the Pro-rector for innovation in Distance Learning at Universidade Aberta (2006-09) and President of EDEN – European Distance and E-learning Network (2013-16). As a Pro-rector at UAb\, António Teixeira conceived and managed the successful and speedy strategic transformation process of the university from a print-based distance learning institution to a fully online one. Throughout the years\, he has integrated several boards of directors and many expert committees and task forces in higher education institutions and organizations at national and international level. He’s currently an external expert for AQU Catalunya and ACPUA quality assurance agencies in Spain and the research and innovation national agency of Uruguay (ANII) among others.\nAntónio Teixeira has participated in over thirty international research projects and authored over one hundred scientific articles and other publications. Dr. Blackburn is the Chief Learning Officer at Ignite Nation where she is vital in the movement from on-ground to virtual training.  Before serving as CLO with Ignite\, she was the VP and Chief Academic Officer for Barnes & Noble Education\, LoudCloud and the Senior Advisory Consultant / Strategic Account Manager for Higher Education for Desire2Learn\, where she provided guidance and planning for corporate and academic clients. SUMMARY:Digitally enhanced learning at European higher education institutions – state of play and prospects
DESCRIPTION:WATCH THE RECORDING VIEW THE PRESENTATIONPresentation with DiscussionsDescription:  The presentation will provide some data from the DIGI-HE survey report carried from March to June 2020 (within the framework of the Erasmus+ EUA-led project\, DIGI-HE). The European University Association carried out a survey on digitally enhanced learning and teaching among higher education institutions across Europe. Coinciding with the lockdown and physical distancing\, the survey results provide some information on the sector’s crisis response\, but mainly focussed on the status ante\, and on a plan for the future.The online survey was open to universities and other higher education institutions across Europe. About 80% of the participating 368 respondents in 48 European countries are conventional universities offering mainly on-campus tuition\, although the majority offered\, already before the crisis blended and also some online learning\, usually through short courses. This survey is a timely update to EUA’s 2013 survey on e-learning\,  also as it provides some insights on how institutions responded to the Covid-19 pandemic. During this session\, some of the key findings of this survey will be presented\, and discussed with a panel of three university representatives. By remote learning and teaching\, moving education from in-campus to online\, hybrid education\, all educational institutions have relied on educational technologies. The education actively responded to these changes by including more and more open education principles\, quite often using diverse technologies to achieve so. There exists a rich ecosystem of open educational technologies (OET) created by educational\, open source\, and commercial organizations around the world. Open Educational Technologies (Open EdTech) is a diverse group of organisations\, open source projects\, and individuals advocating for the use of open technologies\, content\, and standards in education. They are guided by the 12 principles as listed in the Barcelona Blueprint 2019 and they constantly plan to thrive the learning ecosystems. This workshop intends to discuss its guiding principles but also to present some recent developments with technologies in innovative education. What the ECCOE system has to offerSummary: The European Commission has noted the difficulties that limit the cross-institutional recognition of higher education and upper secondary diplomas. Any automatic mutual recognition that they might highlight as being desirable still seems a long way off\, even though the advantages are clear both for students and institutions. As an important step towards such a solution to this problem\, the ECCOE system (European Credit Clearinghouse for Opening up Education)\, represents an attempt to facilitate the endorsement and appropriation of open\, online and flexible higher education by increasing trust in technology-enabled credentials among students\, higher education institutions (HEIs) and employers. The role of Model Credit Recognition Agreements (MCRAs) will be discussed together with aspects of their use that have emerged from the first round of an in-house peer review of their functionality. In vocational education and training\, work-based learning is planned as part of the student’s personal competence development plan. Ebba has been involved in international and national projects and networks in the areas of open and distance learning\, OER\, MOOC\, social media\, learning analytics\, mobile learning and open education in general\, with a special focus on quality. Her Phd thesis focused on benchmarking e-learning in higher education and led ICDE’s quality standard study (Quality models in online and open education around the globe: State of the art and recommendations) in 2014-2015. \nPanelists:Sanjaya MishraEducation Specialist\, Commonwealth of Learning\, CanadaDr Sanjaya Mishra joined COL as Education Specialist: eLearning at its headquarters in Canada on 2 January 2015. Previously\, he served COL as Director of the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) from 1 July 2012 to 31 December 2014. Dr Mishra is one of the leading scholars in open\, distance and online Learning. Prior to joining COL\, he was Programme Specialist (ICT in Education\, Science and Culture) at UNESCO\, Paris.Dr Mishra has over 25 years of experience in design\, development and management of open and distance learning programmes. With a blend of academic and professional qualifications in library and information science\, distance education\, television production and training and development\, he has been promoting the use of educational multimedia\, eLearning and use of open educational resources (OER) and open access to scientific information around the world. During his service in different capacities at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)\, amongst many innovative activities and programmes\, he developed the OER-based one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in eLearning.

At the 2017 Gothenburg Summit\, EU leaders outlined a vision for education and culture. In its December 2017 Conclusions\, the European Council called on Member States\, the Council and the Commission to take forward a number of initiatives\, including: ‘…strengthening strategic partnerships across the EU between higher education institutions and encouraging the emergence by 2024 of some twenty ‘European Universities’\, consisting in bottom-up networks of universities across the EU which will enable students to obtain a degree by combining studies in several EU countries and contribute to the international competitiveness of European universities’. The panelists will discuss about perspectives and challenges that will affect international mobility in this new scenario\, prepared in the previous years by a number of EU projects regarding virtual mobility\, virtual exchange and virtual Erasmus\, highlighting innovative practices in the digital era and the taking up of digital technologies and of innovative and open pedagogies in education. He is Director for International Strategy at the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization of UGR. He acted as Deputy Director for International Projects and Networks of the UGR Centre for Virtual Teaching and Learning CEVUG from 2010 to 2015. He also acted as Director of CEVUG from 2015 to 2017 and Director of the Resource Production Centre for the Digital University of UGR from 2017 to 2019. From 2010 to 2019\, he coordinated UGR Team in European Projects related to eLearning\, use of technology in teaching and learning\, and Virtual Mobility. He is a Delegate Representative for UGR at the Education Innovation Working Group of CG since 2015. \n\nDorothy KellyProfessor\, University of Granada (UGR)\, SpainDorothy Kelly is a professor of Translation at the University of Granada (Spain)\, where she has also been Vice Rector for Internationalization since 2008. In the field of the internationalization of higher education\, she was Chair of the Executive Board of the Coimbra Group of Universities from 2010 until 2017 and was a member of Spain’s national Bologna Experts Team from 2010 to 2013. She has participated intensely in Spanish\, European and international advisory boards and events in the field of higher education and in particular its internationalization. She was a member of the Board of the Committee for Internationalization and Development Cooperation at the Spanish Rectors’ Conference between 2008 and 2012\, and again between 2014 and 2020; from 2018 to 2020 she was Executive Secretary of the Board and is currently a special advisor. She is a member of the Advisory Group on Higher Education to the Steering Committee for Education Policy and Practice of the Council of Europe. Currently\, she is the coordinator of Arqus\, one of the first 17 European University Alliances to be approved by the European Commission and composed by the universities of Bergen\, Graz\, Leipzig\, Lyon\, Padova and Vilnius\, along with Granada. \n  \n\nAntonella ForlinoPro-Rector for International Affairs at the University of Pavia\, ItalyProf. Antonella Forlino is the Pro-Rector for International Affairs at the University of Pavia\, Italy. She is Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Molecular Medicine\, Unit of Biochemistry\, University of Pavia. She has a PhD in Biochemistry and the Speciality in Genetics. She spent 5 years of post-doc training in NIH\, Bethesda\, USA.Her research activity has been focused on the molecular\, biochemical\, and functional study of genetic diseases of the connective tissue in particular Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI)\, using in vitro and in vivo models (mice and Zebrafish). She is combining basic science with translational approaches. She is particularly interested on the intracellular effects of retained aberrant collagen type I in modulating the bone phenotype in both dominant and recessive OI. \n  \n\nLiliana MoreiraHead of International Relations Unit of the University of CoimbraLiliana Moreira is the Head of International Relations Unit of the University of Coimbra since 2019. She was the Coordinator of International Relations Department of Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education since 1997. She has a degree in Sociology\, a Master course in Globalizations and a Ph.D in Tourism Leisure and Culture with several scientific papers related with international students and higher education. During eight years she was the President of Portuguese Association of International Relations Technicians from Portuguese Higher Education Institutions. She is the representative member of University of Coimbra in the Latin American Working Group of the Coimbra Group. \n
