Digital skills and training practices in disruptive industries: a European perspective

Description
New, flexible and on-demand skills training is needed to tackle digital disruption and generate employment and productivity, especially in disruptive industries. According to OECD, many EU countries have a strong focus on formal education which does not lead to the desired results. Especially adults with low skills are left behind and participation does not always yield good labor market outcomes for them. This EDEN NAP webinar presents an analysis on how companies and company members approach learning, training and digital technologies in various disruptive sectors in four European countries. This analysis has been carried out within the framework of the Erasmus+ Project StiLLLearning, a project aimed at 1. identifying the most relevant key competences needed in European disruptive industries; 2. Co-creating an idea back for innovative learning and training solutions for work-based learning 3. Designing and implementing an open hypervideo-based cMOOC (collaborative massive open online course) for competence developers in industries and vocational and adult educators https://www.stilllearning.net/
A total of 63 participants were interviewed from Tourism (Italy and Switzerland), Textile (Italy and Switzerland), Automotive (Germany), Building (Switzerland) and Bioeconomy (Finland) sectors. The speakers will present the general results of this international study, discussing differences and similarities among sectors, countries and roles (employer, employee and adult educators). Results suggest that the most mentioned tools for learning at work were for communication, followed by productivity and video tools, whereas learning content management systems and innovative applications were less recognised.
After the presentation of the general results, each speaker will discuss some qualitative country-based considerations. Discussion with participants will be focused on practical implications for HR managers, learning specialists and VET schools in disruptive industries.

She is Senior Researcher and Project Manager at SFUVET (Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training). She is a PhD candidate in Experimental Pedagogy with a research on semi-automated assessment of Critical Thinking in essays and open-ended answers (AES) carried out under the supervision of Professor Antonella Poce (Roma TRE University).

Vlad Mihaescu has a PhD in educational and technological models of MOOCs and has more than 10 years’ experience as a trainer and teacher in areas like multimedia technologies, social media, e-tourism, e-learning, usability, entrepreneurship, programming, soft skills and leadership. Author of over 25 scientific papers and book chapters published in international conferences and journals, Vlad is involved in several European research projects in the field of eLearning. He is also a lecturer for the Politehnica University of Timisoara.
