Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, new pedagogies have emerged which have the potential to dynamically impact education both now and in the future. Our expert panel of researchers will share their views on these new teaching and learning approaches and how and why they are poised to exert a powerful influence on our classrooms and institutions across all education sectors. During this session, you will have an opportunity to engage in a question and answer period with our panelists and to discuss questions such as:
Kathrin Marie Otrel-Cass
Professor, University of Graz, Austria
Kathrin Otrel-Cass is a professor in educational science and worked over the years at Universities in New Zealand, Denmark and in Austria. Her interest is in innovative approaches in teaching and learning both in higher education as well as primary and secondary school education. Kathrin has a special interest in teaching and learning in science, technology and increasingly works in interdisciplinary research environments. Amongst other associations she is a member of the Human Factor in Digital Transformation network at the University of Graz.

Policy Officer, Digital Education, European Commission

Lisa Marie is a former EDEN executive committee member, and is a Senior EDEN Fellow. Currently, she is program lead of the online Home Hub at Learnlife, a K-12 education center in Barcelona, Spain. Previously, she was program director of and instructor in the Master in Management of Technology Enhanced Learning (MTEL) at the Center for Lifelong Learning (C3L), at University of Oldenburg, Germany, as well as a senior researcher at DHBW in Heilbronn. Prior to academia, Lisa worked for SAP in Walldorf, Germany, leading and implementing enterprise-wide knowledge management and training processes and solutions. Lisa’s research interests are in the areas of self-determined learning (heutagogy), online collaborative learning, and the pedagogical application of web 2.0 technology and social media.

Roisin Lyons
Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, formerly DCU moving to University of Limerick – July 2021
Roisin holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship Education and has taught innovation, entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship to cohorts in Dublin and Saudi Arabia for over 10 years. Research focuses on open source innovation, entrepreneurial tendency development, and pedagogy (hackathons, gamification, experiential activities for large-class contexts). Former high school science teacher, Roisin is heavily involved in many social enterprise and start-up initiatives such as Enactus/ StartupWeek, and is a founding member of TeamOSV.

Marta MarkowskaPolicy Officer, Digital Education, European Commission
Marta Markowska is a Policy Officer for Digital Education in the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport, and Culture at the European Commission in Brussels. Her previous policy work in the European Commission focused on social inclusion and equality, implementation of the European Strategic Framework for Education and Training as well as working as a Press Officer.
Prior to joining the European Commission, Marta worked as a teacher, television story producer and public relations adviser in Canada, the US and South Korea. She completed her undergraduate honours degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and her post-graduate studies at Algonquin College in Ottawa. Born in Poland, and raised in Canada, she returned to Europe whereby she completed her Masters Degree in European Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland after which she started her work with the European Commission. She currently lives in Brussels and is a mom to two little boys.

Thomas Ryberg is Professor of PBL and digital learning in the Department of Planning at Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark. He is part of the “Aalborg Centre for Problem Based Learning in Engineering Science and Sustainability under the auspices of UNESCO”. His primary research interests are within the fields of Networked Learning and Problem Based Learning (PBL). In particular, he is interested in Problem Based Learning, and how new media and technologies transform our ways of thinking about and designing for networked and hybrid Learning. He is co-chair of the International Networked Learning Conference and co-editor of the Springer book series ‘Research in Networked Learning’. Currently, he is engaged in the PBL future project which is developing new directions for PBL in a digital age.
