No. 6 – Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 Setting education and training for the digital age

Description

The European Commission recently adopted the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 to address the challenges arising from the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and the longer-term digital transformation. The webinar aims to provide an overview of the key aspects and guiding principles underpinning priorities and actions of the new Action Plan. This includes a particular focus on the evidence underpinning the new Action Plan and upcoming research on digital education. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with the speakers at the end of the webinar.

Sandra Kučina Softić
EDEN President
University Computing Centre SRCE, Croatia

Sandra Kučina Softić is the Assistant Director for Education and User Support at the Zagreb University Computing Centre (Croatia). She is also the Head of the E-learning Centre and the Head of the Office for E-learning at the University of Zagreb. Her work is focused on monitoring and fostering e-learning in Croatian higher education and providing support and advice to institutions, teachers and students in implementation of new technologies in learning and teaching. She was appointed Croatian representative in ET2020 Working group on Digital Skills and Technologies (2016-2018) and in ET2020 Working group on Digital Education: learning, teaching and Assessment (2018-2020). In 2018 she was appointed member of European Education and Training Expert Panel.
Her field of interest is strategic decision making related to e-learning and distance education, quality assurance, educational technologies and open education and open educational resources. She has been involved in a number of projects (national and international) related to these fields and she also actively presents at international conferences. She is also author of training courses for teachers and speaker on these topics.
She has a master’s degree in Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom) and PhD in Information and Communication Technologies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb.
She has been a member of EDEN Executive Committee since 2013 and in 2014 she received the EDEN Fellow Title. In 2019 she became President of EDEN.

Georgi Dimitrov
Deputy Head of Unit ‘Innovation and EIT’ & Project Leader ‘New Digital Education Action Plan’ Directorate-General ‘Education, Youth, Sport and Culture’, European Commission
Georgi joined the European Commission in 2008. He was involved in setting up the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and launching HEInnovate, an initiative that supports entrepreneurial and innovative universities. He then moved from policy advisor to middle management. In January 2017, Georgi assumed the role of Deputy Head of Unit at the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture where he is responsible for the EIT; digital education; and innovation in education including business-university cooperation. Georgi led the work around the implementation and update of the Commission’s Digital Education Action Plan. Before joining the Commission, Georgi worked for a leading multinational telecommunication company in Germany. He studied at the University of Bonn (MA), the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (PhD) and the Open University UK (MBA in Technology Management).


Veronica Mobilio
Policy officer, Directorate-General ‘Education, Youth, Sport and Culture’, European Commission


Veronica is an educational expert, with specific expertise on digital and entrepreneurship education. She works as policy officer at the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture, where she has been contributing to the implementation and update of the Commission’s Digital Education Action Plan. She led the activities connected to the evidence base of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 and its Staff Working Document. Previously, she worked as Senior Manager for Education Development at Junior Achievement Europe and, before moving to Brussels, as a consultant and researcher for several public and private organizations in Italy. She holds Ph.D in Social Sciences. Passionate about evidence-based policymaking, she strongly believes in people empowerment.

 


Yves Punie
Deputy Head of Unit ‘Human Capital and Employment’, Joint Research Centre, European Commission

 


Yves is senior scientist and Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission Joint Research Centre in Seville, Unit Human Capital and Employment. He is leading its research and policy activities on ‘Digital Learning and Skills’, a research area providing evidence-based policy support to the European Commission on harnessing the potential of digital technologies to innovate education and training practices, improve access to lifelong learning, deal with the rise of new (digital) competences needed for employment, personal development and social inclusion. Before joining the JRC in 2001, he was interim Assistant Professor at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). He holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences.
