In this webinar we are going to focus on specific digital experiences from and for the technical higher education. In these pandemic times, the higher education community has been united in facing the challenges which arose and in finding the best solutions for the transition to online learning. The digital component of the education will remain even after the pandemic ends. Moreover, the digital component was already a key factor for many universities and specialists. Such specialists are going to share their experiences and good practices, from the mentoring and training of higher education professionals, using remote and virtual labs, integrating AI in education and all of this keeping the quality of the educational process in mind.
Vlad Mihaescu has a Ph.D. in educational and technological models of MOOCs and has more than 15 years of experience as a trainer and teacher in areas like multimedia technologies, social media, e-tourism, e-learning, usability, entrepreneurship, programming, soft skills, leadership, and project management. Author of over 30 scientific papers and book chapters published in international conferences and journals, Vlad is involved in several European research projects in the field of eLearning, digital culture, and digital entrepreneurship. He is also a lecturer for UPT. Since 2020, Vlad serves in the position of Chair of the Steering Committee of EDEN’s NAP (Network of Academics and Professionals). He is also the Director of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Office of Politehnica University Timisoara.
Dr. ing. Diana Andone is the Director of the eLearning Center of Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania, responsible for planning and implementing digital technologies, online learning technologies, and the university award winning Virtual Campus CVUPT. She is also associate professor at the Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania, in the area of multimedia, interactive and web technologies. Since 1998, she teaches course modules in universities from UK, France, USA, Finland, Italy, Greece. She holds a PhD in Designing eLearning Spaces for Digital Students with Brighton University, UK, has extensive research experience with intense publication (over 17 books, 100 research papers, 11 Best paper Awards) and more than 30 research and educational projects, mainly funded by the European Commission. She is passionate about the ubiquitous access to technologies and how they can be used to improve people’s life. Dr. Andone actively promotes the use of OERs, MOOCs and the open education principles, developing UniCampus.eu for training for digital skills, acting in international associations (EDEN, IEEE, AACE, IADIS, IAFES,) actively supports the local start-up movement (StartUp Weekend, HackTM, hackathons, CoderDojo) and Girls in Tech, Women in Tech and STEM education. She also acts in the Board of Romanian NGOs (Pentru Voi Foundation), in Timisoara 2021 European Capital of Culture Task Force and in other voluntary organisations. Dr. Andone is EDEN Senior Fellow, IEEE Education Society 2021 Distinguished Chapter Leadership Award, EDEN Vice-President for Communication and Communities (2018-2021), and member in IEEE Education Society Board of Governors (2021-present), and in IEEE Romania Section the Educational activities Chair (2019-present).
Gustavo R. Alves graduated in 1991 and obtained an MSc and a PhD degree in Computers and Electrical Engineering in 1995 and 1999, respectively, from the University of Porto, Portugal. He lectures at the Department of Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering, Polytechnic of Porto, since 1994, where he now holds a position as Associate Professor. He serves as the Head of the Centre for Innovation in Engineering and Industrial Technology (CIETI), an R&D unit supported by the Portuguese National Agency for Science & Technology (FCT). He has authored or co-authored +260 publications, including book chapters and conference and journal papers with a referee process, and co-edited 2 books. He was involved in 19 national & international research projects. His research interests include engineering education and remote laboratories. He served as President of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education (2018-2020) and currently serves as Vice-President of the International Association for Online Engineering (IAOE). He served as an Associated Editor (AE) for the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies (2016-2021) and currently serves as AE for the IEEE Latin-American Learning Technologies Journal (IEEE-RITA).
Daina Gudoniene, assoc. prof.at Kaunas University of Technology, Faculty of Informatics, Lithuania.
She is a researcher and methodology specialist, leading the researchers group „Smart educational technologies and applications”. She represents the University in an expert’s group at the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) working on micro credentials and micro modules strategy. Her research area is Smart educational technologies and applications: models, systems, architecture, LO design and implementation technologies. The author and co-author of more than 60 papers and 10 Books. Applicant and coordinator of Erasmus projects, Norway Grant, Horizon, National structural funds projects, etc.
Igor Balaban is Associate Professor at FOI, Vice-dean for science, international cooperation and projects, and Head of Laboratory for advanced technologies in e-learning. He was actively involved in a dozen of European and national projects, and coordinated several of them. He authored and co-authored 50+ scientific and professional papers and cooperates with European Commissions’ Joint Research Centre as an external expert for DigCompOrg & DigCompEdu frameworks and SELFIE tool. He organized and conducted dozens of workshops, talked at more than 20 conferences, and was invited speaker at some of them. He is also a reviewer for several highly respected journals such as Computers & Education, International Journal of ePortfolio and International Journal of Information Systems. His main field of interest is technology supported learning with special focus on adaptivity and personalization in learning environments and digital transformation of educational organizations. He also has a traceable scientific record in assessing the successful implementation of information systems.
