Description
The aim of the event is to examine the choices of learning platform for a range of learners, in cross-sectorial perspective, in the context of an increased shift to hybrid learning since the Covid-19 pandemic.
European Digital Education Hub
The European Digital Education Hub (EDEH) is an initiative of the European Commission, funded by the Erasmus+ programme (2021-2027) and operated by a consortium of eleven organisations, under a service contract with the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
EDEN Digital Learning Europe Knowledge Building team is actively contributing to this Hub.
Monthly innovative events are organised to discover and debate which are the current and future challenges of the digital transformation of education.
Moderator
Martin Weller is Professor of Educational Technology and his interest has always been in the application of new technology to academic practice. He leads the OER Hub research team, running a portfolio of projects examining the impact of open educational practices. He joined the OU in 1995, as a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence. He chaired the OU’s first major elearning course, T171, in 1999 with nearly 15,000 students. This involved a number of strategic shifts in the OU to make in an online provider. He was the first director of the VLE, recommending the adoption of Moodle. He is currently academic director for the Learning Design project and also Director of the OER Hub. His research area is in open education and digital scholarship – He blogs about this, and have authored two books, The Digital Scholar and the Battle for Open (both available under open licence).
Speakers
Orna Farrell is Associate Professor specialising in digital education based in the School of Policy and Practice, Institute of Education at Dublin City University (DCU). Orna’s research interests include online pedagogy, online student success and engagement, eportfolio and open educational practice. She has a growing publication record in her fields of interest, including a range of book chapters, journal articles, invited presentations and conference papers. She has published in high ranking journals such as Distance Education, the Journal of Interactive Media in Education, Research in Learning Technology, and the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education. Orna is chair of the European Distance and E-Learning (EDEN) Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP) committee and a fellow of EDEN.
Dominic Orr is adjunct professor for educational management at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia, team lead at GIZ for a digital learning platform called atingi.org and, until recently, research lead at the learning platform Kiron Open Higher Education. He follows and shapes educational reform through his work. In 2020 a publication he co-authored on the future of higher education in 2030 was published by Springer. He has worked as an external consultant for the OECD, UNESCO and the World Bank.
